Relearning to Read - a quick-start method

Trying to regain your ability to concentrate on longer-form reading? Here's one way to approach it:
  1. Start by reading the shortest length that causes you challenges. That might be this paragraph! Or a page, short article, chapter.
  2. Don't assume that medication, chronic pain, or illness means you can't improve concentration. You can improve. Don't expect to read a complex novel right away (or possibly at all), but you can still improve.
  3. Read that same short length without interrupting yourself daily for at least a week before you ask yourself to try something longer. 3-6 weeks is even better.
  4. Applaud your own progress. No shame in this being challenging. Like our muscles, concentration requires exercise.
Please share your own suggestions and experiences below. In follow-up posts we'll share links to relevant research and other approaches.
